April 11, 2021
  1. Keep yourself hydrated:

Summers are prone to cause dehydration by draining out water content in our body and leading to serious issues. Our body can function well only under certain temperature ranges, our body needs to cool down in case of excess body heat. Sweating is a process that cools down our body. Initially the blood vessels get dilated and increases the flow of blood which causes sweating. But excessive sweating causes dehydration.

Dehydration is nothing but the loss of our body fluids. Dehydration might lead to many heat related health issues. In order to hydrate your body drinking water is highly essential, especially in summers where we sweat a lot.

  • Intake Plenty of Water: The amount of water a body needs differs from person to person. But on an average, 3-4 litres of water consumption in a day can help in overcoming the dehydration.

  • Consume foods rich in water content: Try to replace your normal snack with foods rich in water content like cucumber, watermelon, etc,

  • Avoid certain drinks: drinks like coffee, tea, beverages loaded with sugar which might decrease/remove the water content in the body and cause dehydration. Hot beverages such as coffee and tea act as a diuretic in the body and remove the water content in the body, therefore replace them with water.

  1. Wear sunscreen :

Sunscreen not only prevents you from tanning but will also help in preventing sun's harmful rays entering your skin. UV rays are way more harmful than we think, it not just tans our skin but leaves a dreadful impact on our body.

  • Acts as a protective layer: Sunscreen acts as a protective layer on your skin which prevents the UV rays from entering the skin.

  • Prevents Hyperpigmentation : The UV rays entering our body can cause a modification in melanin. Overexposure to the sun causes pigmentation in the skin.

  • Prevents premature aging: overexposure to UV rays causes premature aging. Applying sunscreen can prevent premature aging which include wrinkles, fine lines, etc.

  • Prevents skin Cancer: Some studies have revealed that over exposure to sunlight can also lead to certain skin cancer.

Here are a few common questions and solutions related to application of sunscreen.

Should sunscreen be applied indoors ? : If you sit (or) work near a window (or) anywhere the sun rays fall on you , we should apply sunscreen. If you stay away from the rays of sun that you might skip using it indoors.

Should I reapply sunscreen?  Yes, sunscreen needs to be reapplied every 2 hours. As the sunscreen applied might get ripped out during the course of time due to sweating. ( especially during swimming)

Why should you apply sunscreen 15 mins before stepping outside ?:After application, some of the  sunscreen penetrates into the skin and forms a protective layer which protects you from the harmful rays of the sun. This process is called de-emulsification.

  1. Choose the right clothes :
