Save Your Lungs, Save Your Life - Breathing Exercises For a Healthy Lungs Of Senior Citizens

November 30, 2020

Breathing is the most important function in life. Before you understand proper breathing methods, it is the main thing to know a bit about how your body breathes. How do seniors suffer from unhealthy lung and how can breathing exercises help.

How does breathing exercise help with your health?

When you breathe in or inhale the breath, the muscles from the bottom of your Rib Cage,  known as your diaphragm, contract and move downward. This allows your lungs to have sufficient space to expand, the air is sniffed in through your nose and mouth and carries down to your trachea to lungs. At last, the air reaches the air sacs where oxygen is passed into the bloodstream and chuck out from your body as you breathe out or you exhale. On average per cent. This procedure is repeated from 17,000 yo 30,000 a day, every day, as long as a person is alive.

So just like many other functions of your body, lung energy can be appreciably bettered with some daily exercises. Let's have a look at 5 breathing exercises for elderly people.

ABSOLUTE BREATHING

Sit up straight and let your breath out. Breathe in and qualify your stomach muscles. You can feel your underneath stomach which is known as the belly expanding as your lungs fill with air. Keep inhaling or breathing in until you feel like your chest is expanded with a deep breath. Grasp the breath for a second and slowly breathe out, pulling your belly in to feel the last bit of air leaving your lungs. Close your eyes and relax for a while and concentrate on taking a breath like this for like five minutes.

BUZZING BREATHING

Follow the methods for absolute breathing. But when you step into the exhale method, buzz as you let the air from your body. Pull you underneath your stomach as you buzz the last of the air out of your body. Do relax and keep practising this exercise for two to three minutes.

CHINESE BREATHING

This exercise is from the Chinese practice of TAI CHI CHUAN. In this exercise you must take inhale three short breath along with raising your arms out to shoulder height in front of you while taking the first breath, then you have to pull your arms out to shoulder height at your sides while taking your second breath, then the last step is you have to raise them above your head on the last breath. Then slowly let the breathe out and lower your arms back down to your sides. Do try 10-12 recaps. If you get a light headache, kindly stop the exercise

DIAPHRAGMATIC BREATHING

The trouble-free to practise this DIAPHRAGMATIC BREATHING exercise is to lie on your back first. And place your one hand over your navel which is known as the belly button and place your other hand above it near the stomach. And now focus on your breathing from the diaphragm and now if you see your hand over your belly button going up before the hand above it. Then yes, you are doing this exercise rightly. Let up on and focus on your breathing for five minutes and you are done.

FEET BREATHING

This exercise is as much a relaxation method as it is as a breathing exercise. Focus on breathing as your chest and diaphragm would feel like rising and fall in tandem. Take a breath at a normal speed and let yourself relax your mind. As you let your breath out, just visualise your stress and tension going down your body and leaving through the feet. Repeat this exercise until you feel unstressed and relaxed.

Just a few exercises can help your heart and lungs to work well and help you out to proceed with the good oxygen to your lungs. Exercise has lots of benefits for senior citizens. Remember that you should always talk to your doctor before you even start up your exercise routine.
